Oil Before Principles (For a Change)
Categories: Politics

from Daily Mail:

One of the main reasons for the current round of western intervention in the Muslim world is due to the “project” of spreading freedom and democracy in the Muslim world. For this very reason the blood of thousands western armed forces personal has been spilt in Iraq. For this very reason the blood of tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of Iraqis has been split. For this very reason billions of dollars is being spent by coalition governments monthly in Iraq.

Keeping all of the above in mind just imagine how much of a shock it must come those who want to spread freedom and democracy in the Muslim world when they hear that the same American administration whose policies have lead to the spilling of blood of Americans, coalition partners and Iraqis is the same administration that is supporting a not too democratic Muslim leader on the other hand:

“President Bush was facing an outcry last night over America’s backing for oil-rich Kazakhstan dictator Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The Kazakh president won unexpected support from the U.S. after ordering a change in the law to allow him to remain in office for life.

The move has incensed embattled opposition politicians in Kazakhstan and stirred up a hornet’s nest in Washington where Democrats complain the White House is sacrificing principles for America’s oil interests.

They are accusing the administration of going too soft on the former Soviet nation because President Nazarbayev has agreed to join a major pipeline to take Caspian oil to western markets, by-passing Russia.

“It’s all about the oil,” said one senior Democrat Lobbyist on Capitol Hill.
