UPDATE: just found out about this: http://www.dataliberation.org/

Just to let you know- while google finally did reinstate my gmail account late Saturday, they did not fully reinstate my google plus account. They re-enabled my account only to the extent that I can log into it but I cannot post anything at all.

This is of course shitty because it makes my gplus friends able to contact me but I cannot contact them back, giving the impression that I am ignoring them. It would have been better for them to fully disable my gplus account while leaving my other gmail services intact.

This is just more evidence that google doesn’t know what they fuck they are doing. They are behaving negligently, unaware of how their inconsistent manipulation of people’s accounts with no consistency or communication, affects people’s livelihood.

This should be a lesson to everyone that Google is very very dangerous.

You have been warned. Don’t wait until it happens to you.

I’m so glad that I didn’t fully switch over to google voice as I was planning to when I moved next week. Can you imagine? Google doesn’t like what you post on google plus so you can’t use your phone any more… your “unified inbox.”

I see no need to engage google in dialogue about this. They have gone insane.

Google is behaving like the Chinese government.

SOcial networking is getting too messy for me. It should be getting less complicated, not more. There is room for someone to think outside the box here and come up with something new and amazing.

P.S. And i’m not talking about API’s that automate cross-posting. That’s not it. We need something that nobody’s invented yet… radically different and smart.

Because of this I feel the need to un-recommend Godaddy. If you don’t know why, just google Bob Parsons elephant killing and you will understand. The man is a pig, as if the name of the company is not enough evidence of that.

Plus, their advertising is annoying as hell and excessive. And, I’m tired of their skanky models. Godaddy projects an image of a company that unapologetically objectifies women. It also, through the help of Blob Parsons, exudes an air of man’s superiority over the environment.

I should have done this a long time ago. Godaddy is disgusting.

Upset as I am about the fading hopes for health care legislation, I think it’s important to focus blame where it belongs the most: On the CEO’s of the evil health care insurance companies who would rather see tens of thousands of people die rather than to sacrifice any money from the bottom line. Blame should be places solely on them. That is where the buck stops. Let’s ostracize those motherfuckers to the point at which to take such a job would be just as socially unacceptable as becoming the KKK’s Grand Master. Corporate decapitation.

It should be pretty obvious to anyone with sense, that political party has little effect on the impact that corporations have on America’s government. So why not use that to our advantage, and stop blaming politicans, and focus blame on the CEO’s instead?

Before we even try to fix healthcare we need to fix the corporate influence problem. I don’t think many citizens, whether Republican or Democrat, would disagree with the notion that corporations have way too much power on Government.

So forget about social issues for a while- and all those things we differ on and just focus on this. Then, when corporate influence is where it should be, we will have a level playing field and can then make our society run the way WE THE PEOPLE want it to run, and not the way non human profit-driven corporations would have it.

This morning, I was reading a rumor about the possibility of a touch screen iMac. Whether or not this rumor is true, it emphasises a possibilty that I’ve been concerned about: What if Apple is slowly migrating the iPhone OS over to all of it’s Macintosh product line?

I know you may be thinking that iPhone OS is already a scaled down version of OSX but that’s not all it is. iPhone OS makes the UI much simpler and from what I understand the API’s are under much stricter control than in standard OSX. As any iPhone developer knows, these controls mean that no application can be installed on an iphone without Apple’s explicit blessing in the form of being available on the iTunes App Store.

So now that there is wide speculation that the Apple’s mystery tablet will be essentially a much larger iPod Touch, it implies that the same iPhone OS will run on it. So is it not possible or even likely that Apple is slowly moving towards all of it’s computers being giant iPod touches?

I hope this isn’t so because I for one would bail from the platform. Apple in its technical achievements seems to be expressing more and more hubris. Apple, as a single entity, is quite possibly becoming more egotistical. Egotism often twists ones perception.

Apple’s design decisions are based on what’s best for the user (except for certain Jobsian hangups such as built-in batteries), but its business decisions are based solely on what’s best for Apple. I believe that is why Apple expresses so much control over the platform, iTunes, and the app store.

It would be a mistake to stretch the iPhone OS past the realm of lightweight consumer devices. Perhaps it will not go past this point, but who knows. Apple, while being technologically more innovative that pretty much anyone, tends to be fairly predictable in its corporate strategy.

I use a Mac because I enjoy the OSX experience which makes the work I do about the work and not about the computer. But, it would be easy for me to switch to Windows at any time: The only application I use which is not available on Windows is Final Cut Pro, one which I would gladly replace with Avid Media Composer if my clients would agree to it.

Tell the FCC and Congress You Support Net Neutrality

We got the heads up from John Laesch, Democratic candidate in the
special election to replace Dennis Hastert in IL-14. The FCC has made
provision for comments from the public on net neutrality, and on
John’s request we created a special action page that pipes your
personal comments into the FCC electronic filing system, AND sends
your messages to all your members of Congress at the same time.

Net Neutrality FCC Comments:
http://www.usalone.com/laesch/pnum786.php (anyone can use this link)

Facebook Version:
http://apps.facebook.com/fb_voices/action.php?qnum=pnum786 (to use
this you must be a member of Facebook and logged in)

We have already seen blatant moves towards making a two tier toll
road out of our wide open democratic internet, as when Comcast
started discriminating against particular users recently. And you
remember when the AT&T censored Pearl Jam’s criticism of Bush, and
when Verizon censored NARAL’s pro choice text messages. This is our
chance to speak out and make our voices heard to defend our free
internet.

John Laesch’s special primary election is coming up in just 1 week on
Feb 5th, which can help set the tone for the entire primary season to
come. Please submit the action page sponsored by John above, and
please also consider making a donation to encourage him to keep
standing strong on the issues you care about.

John Laesch Donations: http://www.usalone.com/donations_laesch.php

As the Democratic nominee in 2006, John Laesch pulled 40 percent
against the powerful incumbent Hastert in the general election, and
John is in the running again. With numbers like that, and especially
given the shift in public sentiment in the last two years, this is a
very winnable race.

Here is John’s message to you on the importance of acting now to
ensure network neutrality:

***********

The FCC has bowed to pressure and is investigating complaints that a
major internet service provider is selectively blocking traffic. We
need to let the FCC and Congress know that we are willing to defend
net neutrality from big corporate interests.

The FCC is asking for public comments. Let the FCC know that you
support true net neutrality, and you oppose any attempts by giant
telecoms to weaken or dismantle it.

Paid for by Friends of John Laesch

*** End John Laesch Message ***

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your message.

We apologize that we have not been able to process your card
(MasterCard) successfully for your purchase No. 161140755. As our
system is processed entirely through electronic requests, our credit
card service returns a simple message to us when a credit card cannot be
authorized to simply state “card declined.”

As we understand that a statement so simple as this can be easily
misunderstood, we would like to comment on the impersonal nature of
electronic transactions, and apologize for any misunderstanding.

Additionally, we ask that you allow for the possibility that there may
have been a broken or unavailable connection from our service to the
credit card processing service that returned this message to us.

Please let us know if you would like us to try your card again for this
purchase in case such a broken connection occurred. In this case kindly
provide us with your card?s expiry date for verification purposes.
Please do not send any other credit card details by e-mail due to
security reasons.

Thank you very much for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Rob M.
I already tried twice to use my credit card and even tried paypal. I called my card company (Citibank mastercard) and they said my account is fine. I really don’t feel it’s right for me to have to fight to be able to buy something, so I will instead purchase VMware’s fusioin. At least they let me pay them for stuff!

from Open Congress blog:

…
The Intellectual Property Enhanced Criminal Enforcement Act of 2007, was introduced on July 24th and it could easily be ready for a vote before Bush’s six months of warrantless spying are over. Here’s how it works:

Besides increasing penalties for all kinds of copyright infringement, the bill adds a new crime to the list that would be punished equally: “attempted” copyright infringement. Anyone who “attempts” to infringe copyrights (a charge so vague that it could apply to almost anyone) could be tried and put in jail, but before that, they could have their computer confiscated and be immediately subjected to a wiretap. The attempted copyright infringement clause amends Titles 17 and 18 of U.S.Code and subjects it to Section 2516:

(1) The Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, Associate
Attorney General,(!1) or any Assistant Attorney General, any acting
Assistant Attorney General, or any Deputy Assistant Attorney
General or acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal
Division specially designated by the Attorney General, may
authorize an application to a Federal judge of competent
jurisdiction for, and such judge may grant in conformity with
section 2518 of this chapter an order authorizing or approving the
interception of wire or oral communications by the Federal Bureau
of Investigation, or a Federal agency having responsibility for the
investigation of the offense as to which the application is made,
when such interception may provide or has provided evidence of –

It goes on to explain that it applies to Federal Felonies, which copyright infringement is and attempted copyright infringement would be.

EVERY year, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics awards prizes for the best papers presented at its annual conference. Last year’s winner in the nuclear and future flight category went to a paper calling for experimental tests of an astonishing new type of engine. According to the paper, this hyperdrive motor would propel a craft through another dimension at enormous speeds. It could leave Earth at lunchtime and get to the moon in time for dinner. There’s just one catch: the idea relies on an obscure and largely unrecognised kind of physics. Can they possibly be serious?

Freedom of speech is just that. First of all, the so called ‘A-list’ bloggers are for the most part a bunch of constipated fat dweebs who think when they discover something, that they are the first to have conquered the new territory in question.

Example: Twitter. It’s what livejournal was in 2000 only with Twitter, you get a much more primitive system, you loose 7 years of livejournal’s advancements, and a bunch of very boring people for the most part. Of course the interesting people end up boring too because they have mainly boring people to read and write to.

OK, but that’s not the issue. Let me first say I don’t know M(any) of the people involved in this silliness. The posts on the blog(s) which were deleted were IN NO WAY death threats. Please, talk to Anne Coulter, Pat Robertson, or Bill O’Reilly if you want to learn about death threats.

The blogger making a fuss is some marketing slut. She could very well be using this as an opportunity to further whatever her carpal tunneled agenda is.

There was an interview a while ago by CHAOS Radio of the CCC Berlin with the guys who run thepiratebay.org. Listen to that interview. It’s good. Thepiratebay.org has a policy of no censorship whatsoever. They say (in my words) that censorship has to be all or nothing.

I hate writing. I like talking, so I will be brief.

So, twatface, quit being a primadonna and if you want people to read your blog, try being INTERESTING and more importantly, HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR ABOUT YOURSELF!

I heard that Robert Scobelly is not blogging for a week in protest.

Thank Goddess. This is so dumb. The net is no place for the humourless.

P.S. HOPING someone dies is very different from threatening to do it. If I say I hope you get cancer, does that mean I’m threatening your life? If the law is so clear, sue the fucker. Seriously. If you’re serious, then you should go all the way instead of making it look like a PR stunt. You (the blogger complaining) are not the president, yet you seem to think presidential secret service protection applies to you. Go all the way. See if you can get the ISP subpoenaed and press charges.

P.P.S. I just found out that the comments ‘hoping that she would die’ were in HER OWN BLOG! This a profane attack on free speech. She should be suing herself!

What on earth is the point of crude, unartisticly drawn (or construction paper- not sure) cartoons in HD? What benefit could that possibly offer other than to help a ‘dude’ rationalize his purchase of a 42″ plasma penis?

P.S. I am a fan of South Park, so this has nothing to do with the content of the show, which I have enjoyed for a long time.

P.P.S. I’m a hipocrite because there is absoltuley no poiont to me offering eclectic news brief in 720p HD except that I feel it will give me more audience. I end up having to gaussian blur my face because I’m so ugly and old.

There is also a new partner: the 83-year-old Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which will take part by making 100 films available on the site from its 4,000-movie library.

I’ve seen a few bloggers ask this question of late. No, it’s not dead, no thanks to those of you who have already given up on it in the search for the next big thing.

Podcasting is not dead for those who had a message before they found the medium.

Vlogging will have the same result. It’s natural because a majority of the people that do it, do it in order to make money, instead of for the love of the craft and the artistry.

Until recently I was dismayed by this. Now I find it empowering that those of you with nothing to offer but an empty shell of technology and painful indentations from your pants that are the largest size you can buy at the non-fatty store will soon be moving on. Good luck with that.

I’m almost ready to fight again. All the other original podcasters and vloggers should join the fight. There’s no reason why corporate vapid videodrome shit should win out. If it does, it’s our own fault for not keeping what’s ours. You don’t have to sacrifice your integrity. You can tell people to fuck themselves and still make money. In fact, you should.

Scripting News: 1/13/2007
I don’t believe for a minute that Jobs’s closed-box approach to cell phones is the right one. Growth is driven by choice. The Internet grew because, for the 80th time, it was the platform with no platform vendor. The Apple II won, the Mac won, the PC won, even Windows won, because you could install any software you wanted on them. The iPod is a wonderful product, but damn it’s time we made one that could run our software, could run any software, so users have choice, and so you don’t have to buy new hardware to get software features, and so the market can grow at the rate of innovation, not at the whim of one marketer.
