UPDATE: To be fair I need to tell you about one feature of FCPx that I love: the new video scopes are amazing and better than I have seen on any other NLE.

can’t copy past transitionsn or make fave

j cuts horrible

exporting a single frame is so slow- mega slow

hard to work on laptop -too much power consumed not conservative

hard to create templates for bumpers and credits and stuff

totally flat media structure

cant’ dual boot w/o major problems cuz always looks for files in ur movies folder on ur boot drive- very inconsistent

frame export format doesn’t stick- simple thing – just like fcp7 not fixed

rendering for 62 minutes just to export to prores. much longer than media composer

slow beachballs- horrible

64 bit whatever it’s slow like the shitty iapps

and that’s just the begining.
it’s a collosal fuck up by apple. it’s not a work in progress. it’s just a giant turd. it’s a mess. it’s slow clunky, imprecise, and barely useable.

I’m using it on a 17″ 2011 MBP 2.3 quad core i7 and it’s still CLUNKY.

Apple needs to flush this turd and rewrite the REAL FCP in cocoa.

My issue is this: Have you looked at the game section of the APP store lately? There are hundreds if not thousands of FPS (First Person Shooter) games that train kids how to kill things. These are the same types of tools that our Army uses to train soldiers how to kill people.

Does this really make sense? It’s OK to sell apps that desensitize children to murder and death in general but they can’t look at a picture of two people having sex or of a simple naked person.

So much for “make love not war.”

I know you may be thinking that iPhone OS is already a scaled down version of OSX but that’s not all it is. iPhone OS makes the UI much simpler and from what I understand the API’s are under much stricter control than in standard OSX. As any iPhone developer knows, these controls mean that no application can be installed on an iphone without Apple’s explicit blessing in the form of being available on the iTunes App Store.

So now that there is wide speculation that the Apple’s mystery tablet will be essentially a much larger iPod Touch, it implies that the same iPhone OS will run on it. So is it not possible or even likely that Apple is slowly moving towards all of it’s computers being giant iPod touches?

I hope this isn’t so because I for one would bail from the platform. Apple in its technical achievements seems to be expressing more and more hubris. Apple, as a single entity, is quite possibly becoming more egotistical. Egotism often twists ones perception.

Apple’s design decisions are based on what’s best for the user (except for certain Jobsian hangups such as built-in batteries), but its business decisions are based solely on what’s best for Apple. I believe that is why Apple expresses so much control over the platform, iTunes, and the app store.

It would be a mistake to stretch the iPhone OS past the realm of lightweight consumer devices. Perhaps it will not go past this point, but who knows. Apple, while being technologically more innovative that pretty much anyone, tends to be fairly predictable in its corporate strategy.

I use a Mac because I enjoy the OSX experience which makes the work I do about the work and not about the computer. But, it would be easy for me to switch to Windows at any time: The only application I use which is not available on Windows is Final Cut Pro, one which I would gladly replace with Avid Media Composer if my clients would agree to it.

version 3.03 now of apple’s compressor and it is still maddeningly unreliable. Apple is completely deaf to their customers sometimes. Maybe if Mr. Ive actualy used the software he would design a BEAUTIFUL code for Compressor

Apple says the iPods left the manufacturing facility infected with the virus and the company has received “less than 25 reports concerning this problem.” The issue is believed to have affected a small number of iPods shipped after September 12, 2006. iPod nanos and iPod shuffle models are not affected, nor are any fifth-generation iPods currently on store shelves or in transit to customers.
