UPDATE: just found out about this: http://www.dataliberation.org/

Just to let you know- while google finally did reinstate my gmail account late Saturday, they did not fully reinstate my google plus account. They re-enabled my account only to the extent that I can log into it but I cannot post anything at all.

This is of course shitty because it makes my gplus friends able to contact me but I cannot contact them back, giving the impression that I am ignoring them. It would have been better for them to fully disable my gplus account while leaving my other gmail services intact.

This is just more evidence that google doesn’t know what they fuck they are doing. They are behaving negligently, unaware of how their inconsistent manipulation of people’s accounts with no consistency or communication, affects people’s livelihood.

This should be a lesson to everyone that Google is very very dangerous.

You have been warned. Don’t wait until it happens to you.

I’m so glad that I didn’t fully switch over to google voice as I was planning to when I moved next week. Can you imagine? Google doesn’t like what you post on google plus so you can’t use your phone any more… your “unified inbox.”

I see no need to engage google in dialogue about this. They have gone insane.

Google is behaving like the Chinese government.

I’m livid to hear about the murder of Akmal Shaikh by the Chinese communist government. Akmal was a British citizen and this was the first time china executed a foreign national in about 50 years. The guy they killed was, according to his family, a sufferer of severe bipolar disorder complete with delusions of grandeur. He was killed for drug possession.

The level of disrespect by the Chinese paid to Britain and humanity in general is profound on so many levels. Britain does not allow the death penalty under any circumstances. For that matter neither does the EU as a whole. It’s a slap in the face of diplomacy to punish a citizen of another country for a crime which would not be punishable by death in the other country.

But to really understand the sadistic nature of China, just read the following quote from a BBC story about the murder:

The Shaikh family also said it was “particularly distasteful” that judges at an appeal hearing laughed openly at Akmal’s rambling speech as he pleaded for his life.

-source

It is worth noting that the trial lasted only half an hour and the patient was not even given psychiatric evaluation.

Over a year ago you may recall that I researched the organ trade in China. It is well documented that they (legally) use executed prisoners’ organs for transplant without permission. What is not well documented is the suspicion that prisoners of conscience, Falun Gong members, in particular are being executed solely for their organs which are then being sold to foreigners and others. But there is only circumstantial evidence of this, albeit a ton of it.

What I can’t seem to find out is if the family was able to verify that Akmal was killed by lethal injection. The family did not receive the body. China took the liberty of disposing of the body as well. Another profound disrespect.

China is getting too powerful and they must be stopped before they get even more power. China is testing the international community. We have to punish them before it gets even worse.

UPDATE (from the UK’s Daily Mail):

A British official said yesterday that the Chinese authorities had also denied relatives’ requests to inspect Mr Shaikh’s body.
His family had asked for a Muslim burial, which demands that the body be buried intact.
But China has a notorious record of harvesting executed prisoners’ organs and selling them for the domestic transplant trade.

Bicyclemark just interviewed Bhagdad Brian’s wife. Brian was imprisoned yesterday for videotaping a protest in Beijing. This is ridiculous. First China deports vloggers for doing the same thing. Now they’ve upped the ante by imprisoning the vloggers. Is it because they know Americans don’t give a shit? Please listen and spread the word. America cannot allow China to imprison American citizens for doing what America is supposedly all about: speaking freely.

Consider the impact of America allowing China to imprison AMERICANS. THink of what this means for the future of China’s influence on America. Consider how much they own of American corporations and especially mortages.

This post is hastily written and may have errors.

from Marije Meerman, the wife of my friend Michael Schaap from Amsterdam:

Coming Tuesday the 12th of August, the documentary China Prep will be broadcasted by PBS – Wideangle at 9 PM (ET). The film is produced by the Dutch company Submarine (www.submarine.nl) and originally made for an European audience. A co-production with the American PBS made that a different version of the film will be presented to an American television audience. And although the American version is different than I would present it to an European audience, I am proud to announce it and hope you will have a chance to watch it. It was an enriching experience to work on the film. We had the chance to follow the daily lives of 5 very smart Chinese kids in Chongqing, Central China, during their final exam year in highschool.

Hope everything is well and I’m always curious to hear what your thoughts on the film are…

More info: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/wideangle/episodes/china-prep/introduction/810/

Best Marije

Press release:

WIDE ANGLE: China Prep
Tuesday, August 12 at 9 p.m. (ET) on PBS (check local listings)

As the world’s attention turns to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, WIDE ANGLE reports on how the next generation of Chinese leaders is being molded. China Prep follows five Chinese students through their final high-pressure year at an elite high school in Sichuan Province. Eighteen hundred students vie for spots in Beijing’s top two universities. Last year only 59 made it. Studying Monday through Saturday from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, the students’ lives are regimented almost every minute of the day as they prepare for the end-of-year exam that can determine their fate. For many students from poor or rural backgrounds, a strong performance on the test is the only way to climb the social ladder and excel without connections. Competition is fierce and the majority of high school seniors will be relegated to vocational schools. We meet Zhang Lie, who wants to study law and become a Communist Party elite like her father; Mei Jiachin, a genius mathematician from a farming family; Chen Zhibo, a misfit science student with big plans to become China’s Bill Gates; and Gao Mengjia, a dedicated student who loves money and aspires to be a hedge fund manager. Nicknamed the “I want” generation by the Chinese press, these only children – the sole focus of their parents’ and grandparents’ nurturing under China’s one-child policy – will be the new class of corporate managers, lawyers, and civil servants who are expected to propel 21st century China to surpass the United States as the largest economy in the world. How do the ambitions of these teenagers reflect the realities of today and tomorrow’s China? Who among them will be most likely to succeed – the daughter of the Party official or the farmer’s son? Who will be the boss?

At the conclusion of the film, WIDE ANGLE host Aaron Brown will speak with Vanessa Fong, author of Only Hope: Coming of Age Under China’s One-Child Policy and assistant professor at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.

After a slightly hairy flight from Cancun, Mexico, to Havana, Cuba, Col. Ann Wright, Medea Benjamin, Adele Welty (Son, Timmy was a firefighter who was killed in the line of duty on 9/11—and she is a member of 9-11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows), Tiffany Burns and I arrived safely and got immediately down to business.

First of all, I have to say right away that the U.S. embargo of Cuba should end—it is antiquated and hypocritical. Cuba is a Communist country and the human rights issues may not be perfect, but China is a Communist country also, that has an atrocious record on human right’s issues. Secondly, BushCo is committing egregious human rights violations right here on Cuban soil, also. Perhaps re-opening relations could shine a spotlight on human rights violations from Washington DC to Havana.

In my opinion, lifting the embargo could only benefit both countries. I would love for as many Americans as possible to visit Cuba and meet the beautiful, wonderful people who live here and an influx of American dollars due to tourism could only help the people of Cuba. There already are many Americans visiting here illegally, one family we met on the plane said they were coming just to say: “up yours” to BushCo. I also do not believe that in a “free country” like ours that our right to travel wherever we like should be impeded.

I am not as worried about being in Cuba illegally as I am about the peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan who are caught in the cross hairs of American imperialism which is ruining their countries and killing and maiming their populations.

Our country should be above such inhumanity. Most people would be sick at heart if we discovered that dogs were being treated so horribly—these are human beings, not animals.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper became “half a hero? with his reporting about Organ Tourism; only half a hero, because he managed to render that report and not breathe one word about Falun Gong persecution. He went half way towards breaking our story. (One and a half cheers for Anderson Cooper!) The number of confirmed deaths in the Falun Gong persecution now stands at 2,989, soon to surpass CSN’s estimate of 3,001 dead in the Tiananmen crackdown. The confirmed deaths will be smaller than the number of actual deaths, due to the difficulty of getting reports from within a tyranny that likes to hide its crimes and corruption — and which holds the levers of state media inside China. Our big story which broke this year (yet, not on U.S. national TV) dates back to March 9, 2006. That is when the Epoch Times first article appeared, with word of a concentration camp at a medical facility in the Sujiatun district of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, China. The concentration camp was said to hold Falun Gong practitioners, who were kept as a living organ bank for profitable transplant surgery, which would be performed at the medical facility. Call it organ theft. Call it people farming. Call it organ harvesting. And, call it a genocidal crime against humanity. This practice means that transplants are clearly involuntary, coming from prisoners of conscience who should never be imprisoned in the first place. Falun Gong practitioners do not raise their hands and volunteer to be executed — we should remember that this is genocidal persecution in the first place. The transplants may occur from people who are still alive as their organs are removed; after surgery, bodies are cremated to remove the evidence. This means that when CNN’s Anderson Cooper, as noted above, reported about Organ Tourism without the matter of Falun Gong practitioners, he didn’t report the darker, sinister, more ugly, sickening “other side of the coin.?On March 9, the same day I first heard about it, I blogged: “Even though this news is huge and as large as it gets (China vaults into a class with Nazi Germany, and there may be Olympic boycotts if not loss of the Olympics all together), I anticipate the story will grow larger in the sense of a news story. The rising clatter must rise still further, and consequences may ensue for China’s relations with the rest of the world. Suffice it to say, it’s big.? Now, over nine months later, I continue to stand by my initial assessment.

More than 100 legislators, lawyers, doctors, human rights activists and non-governmental organization heads from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Macau yesterday established an Asian branch of the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China.

Democratic Progressive Party Legislator William Lai (賴清德), who is also the president of the branch, faxed a letter during the press conference in Taipei to the offices of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (溫家寶) and Luo Gan (羅幹), the member of the Politburo Standing Committee who oversees police and judicial matters for the Chinese Communist Party.

Urgent need

The letter demanded that the Chinese government allow the group to conduct field investigations into allegations of government persecution against Falun Gong members in China.

“There is a very urgent need to investigate the situation in China as persecution is happening every day,? Lai said.

The group said that the Chinese government executed 1,616 prisoners annually between 2000 and last year, but that it also completed 1,000 organ transplants annually during the same period.

“Establishing this branch means we are going to take action to defend justice and human rights on an international scope,? Lai said.

Is it not obvious that the next step, if it’s not already happening, is homeless people being murdered for their organs?

This week seven undertakers in the New York area have admitted being part of a scheme to steal body parts for transplants. The criminal operation saw body parts removed from corpses without the consent of relatives and sold to biomedical companies. They could face up to 25 years in jail if convicted.
I’m curious to know how much of the 5% of the price of the chic ipod actually goes to people with AIDS. Do you think maybe it would be better for people to give $200 to the an AIDS charitiy directly instead of buying some junk that will break in two years or less that is made by chinese slaves?

OK, folks, I think it’s time to realize that this is maybe just a little bit more serious then some senator sending dirty text messages to his pages. China is killing people for their organs. I’ve been reading a lot about this stuff and there’s tons more evidence. I will do a follow up report on ENB soon but mean while, please get your head out of your ass and spread the word about this! read up on it. People are dying every day. This is something even Hitler didn’t think of!

EW YORK, October 4—As many as 40,000 Falun Gong practitioners who committed no crime have been secretly put to death in Chinese hospitals and their organs sold “on-demand,” investigators told a United States Congressional committee in Washington, DC last Friday. Worse still, little is being done to stop the ongoing killing.

“Time is very much of the essence on this issue,” former Canadian Secretary of State for Asia and the Pacific David Kilgour told the Congressional Subcommittee of Oversight and Investigations. “We believe that innocent men and women continue to be killed across China for their organs as commercial products.”

Kilgour and international human rights attorney David Matas introduced their investigative report on allegations of systematic organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners in China. (full report)

“All the evidence pointed in the same direction as our ultimate conclusion: the government of China in its hospitals, detention centers and other agencies in numerous parts of the country has over the past half decade put to death a large but unknown number of Falun Gong prisoners of conscience,” Kilgour said. “Most of the victims were convicted of nothing; they were murdered by medical professionals for their vital organs.”

Kilgour added that, according to one source, nearly 85 percent of the organs being used in a large Tianjin city transplant center are going to people who reside outside of China.

“Many such patients probably hope they are getting an organ from a convicted murderer or rapist,” Kilgour said. “In reality, it is probable that the organ is coming from a young Falun Gong prisoner, whose crime was to believe in ‘truth, compassion, and forbearance’.”

Also testifying were Erping Zhang, spokesperson for the Falun Gong, and Dr. Kirk Allison, of the University of Minnesota’s Program in Human Rights and Medicine. Dr. Allison stated, “The systematic program of ideological eradication of Falun Gong [by China's regime] coincided with an inexplicable increase in whole organ transplantation, and international organ transplant tourism to China.”

Among the Kilgour-Matas report’s 17 recommendations is the suggestion that all countries discourage, if not outright prohibit, their citizens from obtaining transplants in China until the abominable organ harvesting practice is stopped. No country has yet begun implementing their recommendations.

Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), who chairs the hosting Subcommittee under the Committee on International Relations, expressed disappointment that the U.S. Department of State did not send a representative to the hearing.

Rohrabacher said that the practice of killing Falun Gong practitioners for their organs in China must now “get the attention of the American people.” (photos of hearing)
